Research

Oxford Net Zero research focusses on the meaning of net zero and how to get it right. The themes below are derived from our Nature Climate Change article.

We aim to refine and communicate the scientific understanding of net zero, focussing on urgent and comprehensive emissions reductions, the integrity of Carbon Dioxide Removal and carbon offsetting, and aligning net zero with sustainable development objectives. Our team is investigating possible technological, governance and public policy solutions, and establishing clear guidelines for net zero as a framework for climate action.

We are part of an ambitious collaboration, the Net Zero Tracker, aiming to increase transparency and accountability of net zero targets pledged by nations, states and regions, cities and companies.
