Kai is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Net Zero Aviation at Oxford Net Zero, within the Environmental Change Institute at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on developing policy frameworks and business models for Geologically Balanced Fuels (GBFs) as a complementary strategy to emissions reductions and Sustainable Aviation Fuels, advancing pathways toward achieving net-zero aviation.

Kai is committed to enabling the implementation of technically robust, economically viable, and socially acceptable carbon removal solutions. His work builds on technical training in engineered CO2 storage modeling within the oil and gas sector and spans policy analysis, economic evaluation, social license to operate, innovative business models, media engagement, and investment strategies.

Before joining Oxford, he served in professional capacities with several organizations such as China Investment Corporation, Tsinghua University, UNFCCC, IEAGHG, Asian Development Bank, Total Energies, PetroChina, State Power Investment Corporation, and Hillhouse Capital, bridging public and private sectors and driving impactful climate solutions on a global scale.

He holds a Ph.D. in Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) from the University of Queensland (2022).
