Engaging global youth in climate governance – democratisation or virtue signalling?

Event date: June 23, 2026

This event is part of the University of Oxford at London Climate Action Week 2026 series.

Time: 11:00–12:30

Venue: Toynbee Hall, 28 Commercial St, London E1 6LS

Hosts: Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Trust scholars and Oxford Net Zero

About:

How far does youth participation in climate governance actually drive meaningful change, in government policy and in the real economy? Opportunities for young people to engage are growing, yet participation alone doesn’t guarantee impact. So what turns youth voices into real influence? What’s the formula for ensuring intergenerational collaboration leads to tangible outcomes? What’s the most effective way young people can use their energies?

The Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Trust and Oxford Net Zero are delighted to convene speakers with experience across diverse global contexts to unpack some of these questions. This conversation aims to inspire the next generation of focused, effective climate leaders, while challenging institutions and organisations to take youth participation seriously and to do it well.
