Oxford Net Zero and VietJet announce Net Zero Aviation project

Oct 31, 2025

Last week the University of Oxford signed major agreements with Vietnam on climate innovation, healthcare and access to higher education.

At the ceremony, Professor Myles Allen of Oxford Net Zero and Madame Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Founder and Chairwoman of VietJet Air and Chairwoman of Sovico Group, announced the Net Zero Aviation project, which researches the feasibility and potential impact of geologically balanced fuels, or GBFs. GBFs are conventional aviation fuels whose CO2 emissions are compensated for by an equivalent amount of CO2 that has been captured and permanently stored in geological formations. The project is a collaboration between VietJet, Oxford Net Zero and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and runs until mid-2026.

The ceremony also saw the establishment of a scholarship for Vietnamese students and a new research partnership in healthcare. Read more on the University of Oxford’s website.
