Oxford Net Zero to launch global online course on net zero for public servants

Nov 11, 2021

We are delighted to announce that Oxford Net Zero will be developing a net zero online course for public servants, in collaboration with Apolitical and The Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford.

The interactive online course will span the science, policies and politics of net zero, with content from experts at the University of Oxford. It will help public servants from across the world build the knowledge and skills needed to help nations and societies accelerate to net zero emissions.

People working at laptopWe expect the course to launch in Q1 of 2022.

Professor Sam Fankhauser, Research Director of Oxford Net Zero and Professor of Climate Economics and Policy said:

“Oxford Net Zero and the Smith School are excited to be collaborating with Apolitical on this course. Net zero emissions is the environmental challenge of our times. We need a large cadre of officials and decision makers who understand the ins and outs of phasing out carbon emissions.”

Robyn Scott, Co-founder and CEO of Apolitical, said:

“The green knowledge and skills gap in government is one of the biggest barriers to tackling the climate crisis. So we are thrilled to be collaborating with Oxford Net Zero and the Smith School to empower public servants around the world to deliver on climate commitments.”

University of Oxford experts will work with Apolitical to develop the course, which is aimed at public servants working across sectors who wish to get to grips with net zero targets in their own countries and understand in practical terms how they can help to reach them. The course will be interactive and include articles, videos, audio clips, quizzes and more.
