PROF SAM FANKHAUSER

Sam Fankhauser headshot

Sam is Research Director at Oxford Net Zero and Professor of Climate Economics and Policy at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment and the School of Geography and the Environment.

He is also a Visiting Professor at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics, which he directed before joining Oxford Net Zero. Sam’s academic interests are in the policy interventions and governance arrangements needed for a smooth transition to net zero.

Outside academia, he is an Associate Director at economics consultancy Vivid Economics. Earlier in his career, he worked at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility. He has studied economics at the University of Berne (Switzerland), the London School of Economics and University College London.
